The Piggott School’s EAL Provision
1:1 and small group support
Following language assessment and liaison with subject teachers and head of years, targeted EAL students are given the opportunity of 1:1 sessions with the EAL coordinator. The essential aspects of these sessions are work on grammar, conversational skills, writing skills and subject related work, particularly English.
Flash Academy
Flash Academy is an excellent tool to support students’ independent English learning where they can work on their reading, writing, listening and speaking in a fun and engaging manner.
The students can access the website on the tab below using their login details.
We also use it as an assessment tool for our EAL students.
Weekly Mentoring with Sixth form students
Once a week, some of the EAL students have the opportunity to meet their mentors from the sixth form and engage in discussions about different topics.
These largely 1:1 session are aimed at building the students’ confidence and improving their conversational skills. The sixth formers are students of the Piggott School who have completed the TEFL training course at the end of the summer term of Year 12 and serve as brilliant role models for the EAL students.
This is also a great opportunity for EAL students to learn more about life in the sixth form and beyond.
