  • Run for charity

    Published 10/09/21

The Twyford Together Charity 5k and Fun Run is one of the village’s best-loved, annual events. It’s a chance to get active for a good cause, run with family and neighbours and perhaps be crowned ‘Fastest Street in Twyford’… the ultimate accolade!

This year’s event is taking place here at The Piggott School on Sunday 10 October.

    There are four races, split according to school year groups (pre-school toddle (100m), reception and years 1 & 2 (1km), years 3 & 4 (1km), years 5 & 6 (2km) as well as a chip-timed, multi-terrain, 5K for those aged 11+ (see course map).

In 2019, we introduced a brand new, fastest street competition to the Twyford Together Charity 5K and Fun Run. Chip timing allows us to collect race times for individual streets in our 5K race. The street with the fastest cumulative time for three runners wins! So, get training with your neighbours if you want to beat our 2019 winners, Springfield Park!

RECEIVE A MEDAL OR DONATE A TREE!

New for 2021 is the option of receiving a medal or ‘dedicating a tree’.

  • Richly deserved success for GCSE students

    Published 12/08/21

Headteacher Mr Gray is pleased to announce an outstanding set of GCSE results for The Piggott School again this year. Our students and staff have worked incredibly hard and this year’s results are testament to that.

91% of pupils passed English Language and 91% passed mathematics GCSE at Level 4 or above. Our combined best English and mathematics Level 4+ pass rate was 87%.

Our five or more Level 4+ including best English and mathematics is 86%.

Exceptional results were achieved across a range of subjects with GCSE Level 4+ pass rates of 100% in nine subjects: Art and Design, Biology, Chemistry, Chinese, Computer Science, Further maths, Photography, Physics and Statistics.

All our other subjects achieved outstanding pass rates including History (97%), Spanish (96%), French (95%), German (90%), Media Studies (89%), Geography (89%), Drama (89%), English Literature (88%), Sports Studies (88%), Business Studies (87%), RE (87%), Music (86%), Design Technology (85%), Combined Science (84%) and Food Technology (76%). • Students praised for dedication

    Published 12/08/21

Headteacher Mr Gray is pleased to announce another outstanding set of A Level and Level 3 Vocational results for The Piggott School in each of our Academic, Applied General and Technical courses. Staff and students have all worked exceptionally hard and this is reflected in the grades awarded.

A level results at The Piggott School continue to show year on year improvement from an already very high baseline. Our A level pass rate was 99.5% with 43.7% of grades at A* & A. 68.5% of our results were graded at A*-B, and over 90% graded A*-C. The average point score per A level entry was 41 points using the QCA system.

Our Vocational Level 3 pass rate for Applied General qualifications was 96%, with Distinction Star to Merit being 94%. For Technical subject entry, every student excelled in the course with all grades at Distinction or Distinction Star level.

This once again shows our outstanding Sixth Form as a centre of excellence for Academic, Applied General and Technical learning.

School Captain Harry Daisley felt a mixture of two emotions when he received an A* in A-Level Biology, Chemistry and History. “The first being relief and the second being disbelief. The finished product has been so validating because we’ve had a unique experience during the pandemic and this has shown that I have been able rise to a challenge like this and it is testament to the teachers also. I am planning to study Medicine at the University of Leeds and hopefully become a doctor.”

School captain Chloe Eames received A* for Business and Physical Education, together with an A in Biology and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Chloe was completely relieved when she opened her results this morning. “It’s just a massive relief when you get that email saying your place is confirmed at university.” Chloe will be studying Sport and Exercise Science at Exeter University and hopes to become a physiotherapist.

Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics student Matthew Sullivan will be going on to study Physics at Oxford University having received A* across the board. He doesn’t know what to expect from university but he’s hoping for a lot of fun and a lot of physics!

Mr Gray wishes all Piggott students the very best for their future and thanks all the teaching and support staff for their continued dedication and professionalism.

  • Cool kids working in IT

    Published 30/06/21

Year 7 students took part in a special virtual event run by CISCO called CISCO Kids in IT which aimed to show students how fun and exciting the technology industry can be. The event was designed to expose them to other job functions within the industry like HR, Marketing and Sales, showing the that they do not need to be part of the ‘geeky’ stereotype to work in IT. In addition, the team at CISCO showed them what key skills are needed for working in business;  encouraged them to work in teams and gave them a chance to get up and present back to the rest of the group and the experts over at CISCO via a live feed.

  • Piggott Sports Days

School Sports Day, typically the day that the whole school comes together to compete for house victory, is one of the most exciting and memorable days on the school calendar. Whatever your ability, there is a role to play for every student on Sports Day.

With the recent announcement from No.10 that school sports days can go ahead within bubbles, we have planned (subject to weather) sports days on the following days. Unfortunately we cannot welcome spectators to the event but be sure to ask your children how they got on!

Year 7 students on Wednesday 30th June

Year 8 students on Tuesday 13th July

Year 9 students on Friday 2nd July

    Published 15/06/21

For students and their families living in Charvil, you have the chance to influence what your neighbourhood will look like in the future by completing the Neighbourhood Plan Survey here https://neighbourhoodplan.charvil.com

    CHARVIL NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN IS:

    • About covering important issues such as green spaces, leisure, traffic, transport, schoolssocial and economic needs and priorities, as well as any local housing needs

    • Your chance to influence what your neighbourhood will look like in the future: it will be much more effective than any late-stage objections to developments on a case-by-case basis

    • A document (it has legal weight!), covering 2026-2036, that Wokingham Borough Council must take into consideration when planning future development for the village

    • Currently in production by Charvil Parish Council and local volunteers, led by a steering group

    • Guided by the response of local residents to a community survey, which is then the subject of a local referendum before being adopted

    • To establish the vision and policies needed for shaping any future development of Charvil, while balancing the needs of the local community, the wider neighbourhood and surrounding areas

#TECHOGNITION is a national celebration of technical support staff, recognising the importance of their essential roles in school and FE college education. This one-day event celebrates the work of school and FE college technicians with the aim of publicly showcasing their vast range of skills and the variety of tasks that these jobs entail.

We extend our appreciation to all our technicians at The Piggott School who work diligently behind the scenes to prepare resources and materials for practical lessons.  We couldn't do it without you.

    Thank you!
