Year 7 Literacy & Numeracy Catch up Premium
The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gave schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve the expected standard (scaled score of 100) in reading or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2) https://www.gov.uk/guidance/year-7-literacy-and-numeracy-catch-up-premium-guide-for-schools
This funding was discontinued and rolled into the broader catch-up premium in response to Covid-19. At The Piggott School we continued to provide the level of support previously funded by DfE through school central resources.
The use of the Y7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch Up Premium 2020/21
In September 2020 the school have identified 27 students who we consider would directly benefit from the use of the catch up premium. Other students will also benefit from the premium due to additional provision in some classes which will benefit the class as a whole. The allocation for these pupils is £9,500.
We are using the Year 7 Catch-Up Premium to provide catch up support in literacy and/or numeracy as appropriate for the individual pupils. All eligible pupils are receiving small group teaching to enable them to benefit from extra individual attention. Many of the lessons also have at least one learning support assistant in the class.

Part of the role of 1:1 support is to gain trust and instil confidence in students. This scheme enables students to develop a positive attitude to school and a confident attitude towards learning. Mentors liaise with subject teachers regarding task management and the progress of the students. Future intervention strategies are developed through a dialogue between them both.
