Drama
Vision
It is our vision that students leave The Piggott School Drama Department able to implement a range of interpersonal life skills that are developed during their study of Drama, such as the ability to communicate well with and co-operate successfully with others; to develop leadership skills, to know how to work as a team and when to delegate; to build confidence, to take charge of learning, being independent in their approach to study whilst honing analytical skills and creative thinking; to understand and recognise human emotion, making connections with self and others, as well as developing an awareness of well-being. Additionally, we will embed and explore the qualities that make up our wider school Christian values: respect, equality, honesty, dedication, courage, and love.
Curriculum Aims
As a department we want to encourage, channel, and develop students’ interest and enjoyment in drama and theatre, as performers, designers, directors, and as informed members of an audience.
We will engage and inspire students to embrace both practical and theoretical elements of the subject, through a range of schemes that explore themes and issues relevant to present day society.
We will support our students in their creative journey, harnessing imagination and creative endeavor through explorative lessons, extended-learning and extra-curricular opportunities, whole school, and year specific.
We will help our students foster a passion for experimentation, analysis, and performance (acting & design).
We will strive to ensure our students develop confidence in their ability to speak ‘publicly’, present ideas openly, perform in front of others, apply design skills to performance and to write creatively and academically.

Curriculum Intent
In implementing our vision, Drama lessons are carefully planned to ensure we expose our students to a range of challenging and engaging topics, themes, and texts. We will explore texts of different genres, time periods, forms, and cultures, not only reading, analysing, and evaluating them but using them as a springboard for performance.
Our Drama lessons also allow ample opportunity to develop communication through speaking and listening to one another. All lessons are underpinned by the need to support and challenge students whatever their starting ability, encouraging students to become independent and resilient learners.
Impact
On a personal level Drama contributes to the whole person, life skills and personal enrichment, it prompts creativity, inspires talent, provides a sense of escapism. Drama provides an opportunity to make sense of the world, it can promote acceptance and understanding of the wider world, and it aids individuals in developing personal opinions, political and social. When students leave The Piggott School not only will they achieve exam results that they can feel proud of, preparing them for the next phase of their personal progression, educationally and in their career pathways, they will also have explored and developed their understanding of societal interpersonal skills, the human condition and the world in which we live.
